Joerg Haider, the known Austrian politician died in a car accident on Saturday, 11th of October.
The accident happened soon after leaving a nightclub, South of Kalgenfurt, and the authorities say he was driving at a very high speed.
He was traveling alone and he got trapped in a race with death, out of which he did not make it alive. At 142 km/h in a 70km/h zone, he most likely lost control of his Volkswagen Phaeton V6 and crashed.
The authorities did not want to reveal whether Mr. Haider had been drinking or not. All they declared was that due to the several times the car overturned, he suffered multiple serious injuries that eventually caused his death before even reaching the hospital.
His death came as a shock to many; the Alliance for Austria’s Future members had to find a new leader, in the person of Stefan Petzner, and the Austrian President (Heinz Fischer) and Chancellor both paid heartfelt respects to a man who had great influence on contemporary Austria.
