US missiles hit North Waziristan school, in North-western Pakistan, killing eight students. They were apparently aimed at the house of a Taleban leader, called Jalaluddin Haqqani, but the pilotless US drones misidentified their target and hit the religious school.
The US authorities have made no comment on the incident yet, while the Pakistani army is closely looking into the matter in order to establish exactly how things happened.
There are voices that tend to link this unfortunate ‘accident’ with the latest decisions taken by the Pakistani parliament which basically decided to expel all foreign troops from the country and not let anyone attack other countries while on Pakistani territory.
Eye witnesses say half the school has been totally destroyed, at least eight seminary students were killed and several others injured, but nobody is yet sure whether the attack was aimed at the Taleban leader or his son, Sirajuddin.
Over the last few weeks, the US troops have frequently attacked suspected Taleban and Al-Qaeda camps based in Northern Pakistan, close to the Afghan border.
It has been said that incidents like the one that just happened have been reported in the past as well, and that every time the missile launchers were pilotless, which makes it easier to through the blame at artificial intelligence failures.
